Security vulnerabilities are an unavoidable fact of life in complex IT deployments. But that doesn't mean you should let attackers probe for those vulnerabilities unchecked.
It seems that there's always at least one television or magazine promotion for some educational or health initiative that features photos of cute little kids and a statement about how children are our future. You've seen those, right?
Here's a challenge for someone who is a research nut. Bring together 100 employees of any organization, and ask them to identify a few technologies that they use on a regular basis. Look through the product literature for each technology, and come up with 20 of the most important features and functions.
In early May, Interpol's 41st European Regional Conference was held in Tel Aviv. If you don't already know, Interpol is a bit like the CIA, the difference being that its information gathering and sharing efforts to combat crime are supported by 190 member states.
There's a feeling that I get every election year when I hear two candidates taking positions on issues that are so far apart I wonder where the truth really lies. Then when someone gets into office their positions moderate a bit and they get caught up in the deal making so that every black and white issue turns to gray mush.
The security vendor Kaspersky Lab recently released results of a survey of IT professionals that showed a majority (53 percent) of US businesses with virtualized environments have no intention of implementing specialized security technology. Only 17 percent have implemented agentless security.
